What is the Technique of Impressioning?
The technique of impressioning allows the production of a fitting and functioning key for a certain lock without having to dismount or disassemble the cylinder or even having to decode it with special devices and techniques. The only items required are the corresponding key blank for the cylinder, some tools and a certain amount of practice. The Multipick Impressioning Set was assembled to allow interested users the fast and correct learning of this opening technique.
The exact technique used during impressioning is explained in the manual.
Basically, the concept is that inserting and turning the prepared key/blank in the key way will cause pin tumblers that are not at shear line to block and leave small marks on the bitting surface of the blank. Using a special impressioning file the key is cut exactly 1 depth in these marked places. After each cutting of the blank in the marked positions the complete process is repeated until the correct and functioning key has been produced. One precondition for the successful impressioning is that you have a correct and suited key blank for the specific cylinder.
How long does it take to create a fitting key?
Depending on the practice and experience of the user a fitting key can often be created in only 5 minutes. Successful impressioning and the required time depend on the correct technique and the practice of the user.
All tools required for the creation of a fitting key are included in our set.
